COLUMBIA - Patricia Louise Burrows Ellerbe died Saturday, January 19, 2008, after a courageous battle with a very rare disease, Shy-Drager Syndrome. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Rev. Ellen Skidmore and the Rev. Dr. James St. John will officiate. Interment will be private. Serving as pallbearers will be Clinton Baker, David Beam, Sterling Beckman, Ted Davis, Tom Ellis, Frank Krouse, Don Rutledge and Mitch Wells.Visitation will be Monday 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Pat, wife of William Pickett Ellerbe, Jr., was born in Williamsburg County, S.C. June 26, 1941, to the late Theron and Louise Burrows of Salters. A retired real estate agent, she was a graduate of Kingstree High School and the University of South Carolina where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and was named most outstanding senior.
Pat was an active member of Circle #2 of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church. Before her illness, she was an avid tennis player and enjoyed many years of playing with her “tennis buds” at Spring Valley Country Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Lauren Ellerbe Burke and her husband, Kelly, of Charlotte, N.C. and Julianne Ellerbe Taylor and her husband, Chris, of Barcelona, Spain; grandchildren, twins Ellerbe Louise “Elle” Burke and Logan Cash Burke and William Blakeley Taylor; and sisters, Adalyn Cooper and Lorraine Hilton, both of Columbia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29206; or to Union Presbyterian Church (Salters), c/o Diane Boyd, 114 East Brooks Street, Kingstree, SC 29556.
The family expresses it appreciation to Tri-County Hospice and Comfort Keepers, especially to Doris Williams for her kind and devoted care.
